School of Pharmacy dean candidate to present Feb. 27

LAWRENCE — Aaron Mohs will be the next candidate for the dean of the School of Pharmacy position to visit the University of Kansas Lawrence campus and give a public presentation.
Mohs’ presentation detailing his vision for the school will take place 4-5 p.m. Feb. 27 in Room 1020 of the School of Pharmacy building. The event will also be livestreamed, and the passcode is 932064.

Mohs is a professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy, as well as the associate dean for research and graduate studies and director of the bachelor of science in pharmaceutical sciences program.
The schedule for the remaining candidates has been updated due to unforeseen circumstances. They will be announced approximately two business days before their campus visits. These presentations will also take place 4-5 p.m. in Room 1020 of the School of Pharmacy building on the following days:
- Candidate 3: March 6
- Candidate 4: TBD.

In his current position, Mohs leads a collaborative, National Institutes of Health-funded research program on the development of fluorescent probes to guide the surgical resection of tumors, fluorescent sensor array technology that can rapidly detect and identify bacterial pathogens, and drug delivery systems to target multiple myeloma.
Prior to joining UNMC, Mohs was an assistant professor of biomedical engineering in the Wake Forest-Virginia Tech School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences.
Mohs is a member of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and has previously served as the president of the UNMC faculty senate and the director of the pharmaceutical sciences graduate program. He currently serves on numerous advisory boards at UNMC related to research and education.
In addition, Mohs has won the 2017 UNMC New Investigator Award, the 2019 UNMC Distinguished Scientist Award, and been selected as a fellow of the National Strategic Research Institute at the University of Nebraska, as well as received the College of Pharmacy Impact Award.
Mohs earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and received his doctorate in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Utah. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the joint Emory-Georgia Tech biomedical engineering department as an Emory-Georgia Tech Center for Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence Distinguished Fellow.
The School of Pharmacy dean search committee includes representatives from faculty, staff, students and alumni and is being led by Michelle Carney, dean of the School of Social Welfare, and Candan Tamerler, associate vice chancellor for research and professor of mechanical engineering.
