Marvin Bredehoft earns KU School of Pharmacy’s top honor
The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy presented its Distinguished Service Award to Marvin Bredehoft of Lawrence, October 16 at the School of Pharmacy in Lawrence.
Bredehoft, a 1973 graduate of the School of Pharmacy, is owner and pharmacist in charge at Medical Arts Pharmacy in Lawrence.
Established in 2013, the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy Distinguished Service Award honors individuals who have demonstrated selfless and sustained service and leadership in advancement of the profession, their communities and the School of Pharmacy.
School of Pharmacy Dean Ken Audus said Bredehoft is precisely the type of person the committee had in mind when it created the Distinguished Service Award two years ago.
“Not only is Marvin a leader in his community and the profession, he also takes time out of his incredibly busy schedule to serve as a mentor to our students,” Audus said. “I think our experiential education department has him on speed dial. If a student has to drop out of a rotation for any reason, we know we can call Marvin and he will find a way to help us out.”
Bredehoft is also active in the community and has been a longtime member of the Breakfast Optimist Club. In 2003, he worked with fellow club members to bring 12 Russian pharmacists to Kansas for a three-week visit. Throughout the month, the group toured a wide variety of pharmacy settings, including independent community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and large chain pharmacies.
Close to 130 friends, family, and colleagues gathered Friday evening to pay tribute to Bredehoft, his distinguished career and his service to the KU School of Pharmacy.
