Audus named Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences Editor-in-Chief

LAWRENCE — Ken Audus, University of Kansas professor of pharmaceutical chemistry and former School of Pharmacy dean, has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dean Ken AudusAudus will be the 14th editor of the publication that was founded in 1852. He replaces Ron Borchardt, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, who served as editor-in-chief since 2001.

The Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences publishes original research papers, research notes, topical reviews, editorial commentary and news. Topics include chemical processing of pharmaceuticals, chemical stability of drugs, pharmacokinetics, biopharmaceutics, pharmacodynamics, protein-peptide chemistry and biotechnology specifically as these related to pharmaceutical technology. Approximately 1,200 manuscripts are submitted to the journal each year. Of those, about 400 are accepted and published.

Audus is the author or co-author of more than 165 research papers in the pharmaceutical sciences on cell and tissue barriers and drug delivery topics. He is an American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Fellow and has served as an associate editor and editor for Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences since 2006.

“It’s quite an honor to be appointed as EIC for JPharmSci and to work with fellow editors and the editorial office to serve a unique research community that has a traditional scope on most aspects of pre-clinical drug development issues, including drug formulation issues, physical pharmacy, analysis and pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics, whether they be small molecule or macromolecules,” Audus said.

Christian Schoneich, Takeru Higuchi Distinguished Professor and pharmaceutical chemistry department chair, said the appointment of Audus, following the long tenure of Borchardt, is testament to the rich history of academic research at KU and within the department.

“The office of the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been housed in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry for nearly two decades and become a cornerstone of scholarship in the pharmaceutical sciences at KU,” Schoneich said. “We are proud that this tradition will continue with the election of Ken Audus as editor-in-chief.”
